Vidhya Balan to essay the role of Indira Gandhi in adaptation of Sagarika Ghose’s biography

Vidhya Balan will play Indira Gandhi in the adaptation of Sagarika Ghose’s book Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister.

Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister explores the tragic chapters of Gandhi’s failed marriage, her turbulent relationship with her son Sanjay and the possible reasons behind the Emergency that was imposed in 1975, along with Indira’s countless political rivalries.

Balan also confirmed the news in a recent statement that she was happy to have acquired the book rights because she always wanted to play Indira Gandhi.”I am happy to have acquired the rights to Sagarika Ghose’s ‘Indira…’ because I have always wanted to play Indira Gandhi. I haven’t decided yet whether it should be a film or a web series, but that will take a while anyway,” Vidya, said in a statement.

Ghose took to Facebook to share her excitement. “Elated to announce that I just signed the contract for the movie rights of my book ‘Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister’ with Vidya Balan and Roy Kapur Productions. Most excited to see ‘Indira’ on screen!” she wrote.

Replying to a tweet, the author even suggested that with Vidya portraying the role of Indira Gandhi, Akshaye Khanna would be best suited to play Feroze Gandhi.
